There has been no shortage of great free events lately in the neighborhood. First we had Shakespeare on the Green (final performances this weekend!), then 80,000 or so people enjoyed Bank of the West's Celebrate America concert, and now we've got the opening week of Jazz on the Green at Turner Park. Free parking, free admission, free music. Somebody must like us.
The series kicks off with a performance by Grammy Award-winning Poncho Sanchez. Considered one of the nation’s top percussionists, Sanchez's music weaves spirited tales that pay homage to a tradition born when Afro-Cuban rhythms merge with bebop. The Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz band last played in Omaha at the Kiewit Concert Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center in 2008.
Turner Park at Midtown Crossing opens at 5:00 p.m. for seating. Attendees can bring blankets, chairs, pets, food and beverages. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m.
